Yes and no. Majority of Hindus revere cows. Many Hindus, especially in rural areas and not so much in urban areas, had Cow as their Pet. Just like people in the US used to have Horses and nowadays dogs or cats. The cows were prized commodity because they were a source of food i.e., Milk, as well as helped in farming. The dried cow dung was used as firewood by women for cooking.

If they worship cows, then why do I see cows roaming around in the street?
